Our department is the most equipped and privileged among the history departments in the universities of our country with the support of other departments of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences in terms of research and education and training infrastructure in order to fulfill its duty to achieve the future goals of the science of history that investigates the past.
The curriculum of our department, which is completed in eight semesters, is composed of compulsory basic courses in chronological order in the first four semesters and a large number of elective courses in the following semesters.
In these courses, in addition to acquiring basic knowledge in various fields of history, students learn the methods and techniques of accessing information and gain the ability to interpret and evaluate the information they access. In order to learn the source languages necessary for the evaluation of original written documents, which are indispensable for historical research, in addition to the source languages courses taught by the faculty members of our Department, elective courses from the Persian department of our Faculty provide important advantages.
In our department, which has a strong teaching staff due to the large number of faculty members and assistants, a general history program is followed at the undergraduate level. Our department consists of seven departments: Ancient History, Medieval History, Modern History, Ottoman Institutions and Civilization, Modern History, History of the Republic of Turkey and General Turkish History.
Those who successfully complete the undergraduate program of the Department of History graduate with “Tokat Gaziosmanpaşa University Faculty of Arts and Sciences Undergraduate Diploma” and the title of “Historian”. Our graduates are employed as history teachers in schools affiliated to the Ministry of National Education or private education institutions, as research assistants or lecturers in history and other related departments of universities, or as experts in units affiliated to the Ministry of Culture, archives and various public institutions by completing the pedagogical formation prerequisite.
