Dear students of the Department of History and dear young people who will prefer our department;
As Tokat Gaziosmanpaşa University History Department, we have been endeavoring to train good historians for the country since 1992. In our department, future historians are trained with a scientific approach and an interdisciplinary infrastructure is created. In our department, a quality education approach is adopted in order to raise researcher and original historians who have a command of the issues and accumulations of today's historiography, embrace national values, and have the competence to evaluate their own history from the perspective of world history. We hope that every student we educate will be individuals who have the basic values of the Republic of Turkey, have a high awareness of history and have sufficient knowledge.
Since the faculty members of our department carry out studies in fields such as theology, archiving, international relations, political science as well as the history discipline they have taken in different universities, our department provides history education to its students in a wide range. We are very sensitive about providing an environment where our students can easily reach their professors and freely communicate their problems and demands. On the other hand, universities should be expected to contribute to the city and region where they are established. Awareness of local history is one of the most important factors that keep societies alive. The Department of History is also important in terms of researching the history and culture of Tokat and its surroundings where our university was founded. Researching, examining, determining, documenting, protecting and publishing the history and culture of Tokat and its surroundings are among the primary objectives of the department. In this context, the Department of History realizes these objectives through scientific activities, cultural trips and local history-oriented courses.
Students who graduate from the Department of History receive the title of Historian. After graduation, they can work in private education institutions, if they receive pedagogical formation, they can be appointed as teachers in the public sector, and they can become academicians in universities by completing their master's and doctoral studies. They can also work in public institutions related to their field of education such as the State Archives, Turkish Historical Society, Ministry of Culture, Presidency of Manuscripts. While wishing our current students a successful academic life, we expect our students who will prefer us to join us to be a part of our department.
With respect and affection
Prof. Dr. Alpaslan DEMİR
